50TH NATIONAL CONVENTION
Saturday, May 29, 2004
Atlantic City, New Jersey

The 50th National Convention of the Chios Societies of the Americas and Canada, Inc. came to order at the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center on Saturday, May 29th, 2004 at 10:30 AM.  The Supreme President, John M. Kontolios and Supreme Secretary, Dimitrios B. Kontolios officially recorded the attendance of 45 members.

The Supreme President called for Mr. George Malafis to lead the delegates in an opening prayer.   He then introduced the Chairman of the Convention, Mr. Jim G. Mihalios, President of the Association of Kambiousion Chios of America.  Mr. Mihalios welcomed the delegates and called for all Chians to come together to strengthen their Societies and to support fundraising for Hellenic schools and education.  Mr. Kontolios then introduced the President of the Chian Federation of NY, Mr. Alex Doulis.  Mr. Doulis welcomed the delegates to the convention and called on them to pass some lasting resolutions that will have impact for many years to come.  Mr. Kontolios, in his opening remarks, lamented that only two scholarship applications were received, and that more responsibility has be taken among all the Societies so that more opportunities are offered to our youth.

The Supreme Treasurer, Mr. Stefanos Bouboulis, reports the paid delegates as follows:

Chian Federation of NY: (23)

Panchiaki Korais Society: (2)

Koraes Society, Chapter 16, of Philadelphia: (3)

Chios Society Chapter 4, Baltimore: (2)

Homer Chios Association of Boston: (2)

Chios Society Chapter 7, Cleveland: (2)

United Chios Society Homer, Steubenville-Weirton: (1)

Agia Markella, Warren: (1)

Agia Markella, New Orleans: (1)

Mr. Bouboulis reminds the delegation that the extra $2.00 from the raising of the dues from $5.00 to $7.00, goes to help fund the expenses for the office for expatriated Chians.

Mr. Kostas Sevastos nominates Mr. John Frangos for Convention Meeting Chairman.  Mr. Nick Papagiannakis seconds the motion, which was passed unanimously.  Mr. Frangos appoints Mr. Jim G. Mihalios, as Vice Chairman, and Mr. Dimitrios B. Kontolios, as Secretary.

The Complaints Committee Chairman, Mr. George Parikakis recommended that the minutes of the quarterly meetings and the conventions be distributed to more people to increase awareness of the CSA&C’s activities.  Mr. Dimitrios B. Kontolios responds that www.chiossocieties.org has been activated and an archive of minutes will now be available to anyone visiting the website.

The Public Relations Committee Chairman, Mr. Stavros Haviaras recommended that the Supreme Lodge establish a dialogue among its member societies to better inform them of when meetings and events are held.

The Scholarship Committee Chairperson, Mrs. Stella Parikakis reported that two applicants, Mr. John Flamenio, of Warren, OH, and Miss Georgia Pagonis, of Parma, OH were both worthy of scholarships.  Mr. Stefanos Bouboulis motioned to award $750 to both applicants and Mr. Dimitrios B.
