General Elections

 

On April 5 2009, the members of the Chian Society of Fyta Agia Paraskevi met at the Xiotiko Spiti for elections. The new members of the Executive Board are as follows: George Liakaris (President), Irene Kalogeras (Vice President), Stella Kontolios (Secretary), Andrew Pirgousis (Treasurer), Irene Tzikas (Asst. Secretary), Anthoula Gatanas (Asst. Treasurer).

 

Congratulations to our new Executive Board Members. We would also like to thank our old board members for their hard work, dedication and guidance. Our newly elected Secretary, Stella Kontolios, recently stated “The previous board did a wonderful job and we hope to continue their standard of excellence.”

First Annual Journal

The Chian Society of Fyta Agia Paraskevi is putting together their first annual journal. This journal will commemorate the 13th Annual Dance that is being held on October 10th, 2009. In order to make this journal a success we will need the support of all our members. A journal Ad order form will be sent in the mail. Kiki’s Fundraiser!

We are excited to announce the first annual fundraiser for Kyriaki's Retinoblastoma Foundation

When: Saturday, May 2nd

Where: Pearl (45-30 Bell Boulevard, Bayside, NY 11361 - Doors Open at 10PM).

There will be live Greek music and great raffle prizes, including a flat screen TV, camera, Ipod, and more!

 

Money raised at the fundraiser will be used towards:

-  Helping families affected by retinoblastoma

-  Raising awareness and promoting early detection of retinoblastoma. We will be working on providing eye charts for pediatricians that will teach parents and pediatricians about the red reflex, what is normal and abnormal, aiding in early detection and treatment of ocular disease

-  Support retinoblastoma research projects

Baby News

Peter and Eleni Dedousis are expecting their first child in June.  Eleni is the daughter of George and Anna Halkias and the granddaughter of Peggy Condoleon-Kontos. 

 

The christening of Panagioti Louis Gatanas was held on March 15, 2009.  Panagioti is the son of Peter and Hilda Gatanas.  The Godparents are Stella and Mayo Sanchez. 

 

Upcoming Weddings

 

Demetri Kalogeras and Roula Mastorakis are planning a June wedding.  Demetri is the son of George Kalogeras and Eugenia Bourekas-Kalogeras. 

 

George and Anna Halkias are planning an August wedding for their daughter Paris and her fiancé Brad.  They are both college students and will be graduating this spring.

 

Dean and Anna Nikolaides are proud to announce the September 5th wedding of their son Kirk Nikolaides and fiancé Nicole Klimmis.

In Memory

Michael G. Papalios of Warren, Ohio died on March 12, 2009 after a long illness.  Michael was 77 years old and is survived by his wife Maria Liakaris-Papalios and his children Erefili, George, and Kitsa, and his eight grand children. 

 

Kalliope Tzikas of Bayside, New York passed away on April 11, 2009.  She was 91 years of age.  Her daughters, Irene, Vivi, and Maria, her grand children, and her brother, Peter Gatanas, survive her.  

 

They will be greatly missed.
