Presidents, Governors, Chapter Presidents and all members of the Chios Societies of the Americas & Canada. Dear Fellow Chians: During the 2nd International Convention on our beloved
island, we launched an ambitious project of addressing the needs of the
Skilitsion Hospital and Senior Citizen Home of Chios. For the first time, we
brought to Chios trained, experienced hospital administrators who evaluated
both the hospital, and the senior citizen home, and issued a detailed report
outlining their current status and their urgent needs. Our association with Saint Agnes
Hospital of Baltimore, MD and its affiliation, the Daughters of Charity [A
National Health System] has produced the necessary help and a variety of
equipment for the Skylitsion Hospital. Through our fundraising
efforts, we have concluded our responsibilities for the Eye Clinic, and the
completed Radiology Department, to today’s standards. Thanks to your support, the Skylitsion
Hospital today has been greatly improved in many ways. Thousands of Chians today are treated
successfully, locally, and have no need to travel to Athens, while many lives
have been saved and continue to be saved.
The following pages are some statistics from the Hospital, stating how
many examinations have been performed using the equipment purchased with our
fundraising. Last summer in Chios, during
the 4th International Convention, it came to our attention, from
hospital officials, that the Cardiology Unit of the Hospital was being
upgraded and completed. They
encountered certain financial difficulties, namely, the lack of necessary
funding. At the 4th International Convention, we promised to
collect $50,000, to help complete the project and our obligation to the
Hospital. This year’s 50th
National Chian Convention, in Atlantic City, raised more awareness and
additional funds, but we are still way short of our goal. We are asking our members, for their
support, to complete the task of raising the necessary funds for the
Cardiology Unit. Chios has called on you in
the past, and some of you answered. Chios calls on us again, and now we all
